How the first BFA Challenge Cup helped change the face of Bermudian football forever.
50th Anniversary Commemorative Publication.
The 1955-56 Bermuda football season was when the sport changed forever. until then black and white clubs had competed in separate leagues and competitions. That season, the first racially-integrated teams represented the Bermuda FA against visting teams from the US (Germantown CC) and England (U23 side) and clubs from the black Bermuda Football League and the white Bermuda Football Combination competed against each other for the first time in a new tournament - the BFA Challenge Cup.
This well-illustrated book tells the story of those first international games and the first BFA Cup. But it is not just a story of epic Cup Ties and legendary players like Calvin Symonds, Earl Russell and David Thorne but also the forming of social and racial ties that helped in
building a new Bermuda. Maurice Hankey was part of the triumphant Bermuda Athletic Association team that won the first BFA Challenge Cup after beating Southampton Rangers in the final.
