In the Netherlands in 1941, Jewish footballers were not allowed to participate in football games. However, with the agreement of the camp commanders in Westerbork, football teams began competing there in 1943. Frequently, being a player could postpone deportation. On 1 September 1944 all the players were deported to Theresienstadt, where they formed new football teams. On 28 September most of the players were sent to Auschwitz; there, also, they organized football teams.
