Description |
At the time of its publication (1984) the book was truly ground breaking as no one had done anything like it before - Football grounds as architecture! For better of worse, a different time, with standing terraces, stadiums right in the middle of town centres that were more often than not outdated temples to the teams that played in them. Now, with the amount of ground moves that have gone on since, it's like a history book; a part of our culture bottled and preserved. Not only that but Inglis writes well with no lack of humour and the opinions on some of the grounds are very honest. I can't praise this book highly enough.
