Description |
The book tackles the difficult topic of football in Upper Silesia during World War II in a daring style. It contains 11 chapters, 222 photographs and documents, as well as a personal index and an annex. Most of the publication presents completely unknown and previously unpublished materials.
Bytom. August 1942. Germany's national team for the first – and only time! – comes to Upper Silesia to play a match as a host. Herberger's "Sepp" team includes two local heroes, Reinhard Schaletzki and Ernest Wilimowski, just three years earlier rivals on the field, from two different sides of the border.
This unique event becomes an excuse to tell stories about the fate of sports clubs and specific people who, to a greater or lesser extent, left their footprint on Upper Silesian soil during the dark times of World War II.
An additional advantage of the book is the appendix - the only one, because the first one! – presenting a list of matches played by Ernest Wilimowski during the war.
24 x 16 cms, softback, 424 pages.
