This is an updated and hugely expanded version of the 2005 Sunderland Complete Record. There are extensive brand new sections as well as the classic chapters detailing the clubs history and an exploration of former home grounds. It includes new sections that include a top team of players from each decade stretching back to Sunderland's entry into the Football League in 1890, friendly fixtures and SAFC during both World Wars. As the first club to be admitted to the Football League after the dozen Founder Members and one of the game's earliest giants, Sunderland has long been a major club with phenomenal support. Sunderland: The Complete Record aims to become the definitive reference book on the club. Every competitive game - including minor tournaments such as the Anglo-Scottish and Anglo-Italian Cups - has been included. Many of you will have the first publication of Sunderland the Complete Record written by Sunderland AFC's Club Historian and Publications editor Rob Mason along with SAFC Publications contributors Mike Gibson and Barry Jackson. Published in 2005, Sunderland the Complete Record quickly sold out and has long been a book to sell for well over its original cover price as people sought a copy of a book that aimed to be the definitive book on the club with detailed records of every official competitive game played since SAFC joined the Football League in 1890. Now the trio have donned their anoraks once again and have compiled an updated and hugely expanded version of The Complete Record. The new official SAFC publication will include a host of completely new sections including, SAFC during both World Wars, friendly fixtures, biographies of SAFC chairmen, a top team of players from each decade stretching back to Sunderland's entry into the Football League in 1890 and head to head records against every club. As in the original publication there will be a detailed history of the club and an exploration of former home grounds. It has updated and expanded detailed season by season records showing line ups, scorers and attendances with a host of fascinating new 'Did You Knows'. For instance did you know that before the first world war England international centre forward Tim Coleman once upset a referee in a match against Preston by wearing a false moustache in the first half and removing it at the break causing the ref to think Sunderland were substituting a player when subs weren't allowed? This is just the tip of the iceberg of what is going into the updated and expanded Complete Record.
