Pietro Algeri was born in Torre de’ Roveri in the province of Bergamo on 2 October 1950. After having obtained several victories in the youth categories and the silver medal in 1969, he became world champion on the track in the team pursuit in 1971. In 1972 he participated in the team pursuit on the track at the Munich Olympics.
From 1982 to 2009 he was Sports Director for teams such as
Del Tongo, Malvor, Diana Colnago, Lampre, Mapei, Saunier Duval, managing to win three Giro d’Italia (1983 with Giuseppe Saronni, 1996 with the Russian Pavel Tonkov and 2001 with Gilberto Simoni) and many other victories. From 2011 to 2017 he worked as the manager of the Vittoria neutral mechanical assistance service and subsequently from 2018 to 2023 at Shimano, the year in which he decided to retire from his sporting career to relive his journey through this autobiography.
