Until 1986, 1. FC Nürnberg was the reigning record champion in German football. The players of this club, not just any football club, but one steeped in tradition, have won no fewer than nine German championships and four cup titles. Every child soon knows that "CLUB" can only refer to 1. FC Nürnberg. Over the course of the club's 113-year history, 37 of its players have earned the honor of playing for the German national team. Ludwig Philipp, who made the first appearance in 1910 and was also the first Bavarian to represent the club at the national level, was the first Bavarian player to do so. The most recent current national team player to complete this illustrious list is Andreas Köpke, the 1996 World Goalkeeper of the Year and a European and World Cup winner, who played for the club in the national jersey until 1994. This book, with its comprehensive and richly illustrated biographies and extensive, previously unpublished statistical section, is intended as a tribute to the club's greatest and most internationally successful players. May their contributions to the club always be recognized and preserved for posterity. The author has not only listed all international matches chronologically but also included all other achievements in each player's career.
