The association was founded in the spring of 1914 under the name Dorog Athletic and Football Club, and over time it included the competition sections of 15 different sports. At the time of its participation in the organized championship, it was already called the Dorog Athletic Club, and its support was taken over by the Dorog mine from 1927. The real golden age of the association came after the Second World War. At that time, the team included such famous footballers as Gyula Grosics, Jeno Buzánszky, János Varga, István Ilku, János Prohászka, János Karaba, Antal Szuromi, Tivadar Monostori, Lajos Szucs, István Horváth and others. The football club played in the first division for twenty-four seasons between 1945 and 1977. In 1927, then in 1928 he played in the Corinthian Cup, and in 1952 in the Hungarian Cup final. In 1962 and 1991, he won the prestigious international cup twice and was the best team in the region five times. Dorog was noted as the provincial stronghold of Hungarian football, which was one of the dominant clubs of the 1950s and 1960s. On the scoresheet calculated on the basis of the top flight matches of Hungarian first-division football teams, it still occupies the 20th place.[1]
In 1966, the team was unexpectedly relegated from the NB I, after which they were promoted a few more times and relegated again, but in 1977 they said goodbye to the first division for good. Even after the golden age in the classical sense, there were a good number of outstanding footballers in its ranks, such as József Mucha, Imre Schnitzer, István Laczkó, József Szabó, Ferenc Major, Jeno Peseki. Since then, they have played in the second and third divisions with varying success, but have come very close to promotion to the NB I several times. Even in those times, there were several outstanding players in the team, such as József Andrusch, Rezso Kékesi, Gábor Sikesdi, Antal Füle, Ferenc Orosz, László Arany or Csaba Szatmári. In 1994, in the difficult economic situation after the change of regime, when the mine stopped supporting the club, it was also threatened with the possibility of closure, but in the end, the city government saved the association. In Dorog, the club's operation has been placed on an amateur basis in the past two decades, and accordingly, the players played football while working. After successful promotion to the second division, meeting the rules of the Hungarian Football Federation and adapting to its set of requirements, it has been restored to professional club status since the summer of 2016.
