In 1949 Argentina withdrew from the Copa America to be held in Brazil, because supposedly an important national competition was held in the month of may. And in June 1949 Argentina withdrew also from the 1950 World Cup to be held in Brazil again. This time citing differences with the Brazilian FA.
The Brazilians didn’t take it lightly which inspired O Globo Sportivo to this humorous, but poignant cover.
