One of Scotland's oldest football clubs, Heart of Midlothian have consistently produced players who have graced Scottlsh football and beyond. This illustrated history plots the beginnings of the club in 1874, looks back on the early League and Cup successes and charts the progress of the club in the post-war years. It details their rise to greatness again under Tommy Walker when Hearts dominated the game in the late 1950s and early 1960s with the 'Terrible Trio' of Willie Bauld, Jimmy Wardhaugh and Alfie Conn at their most menacing. There were also the heartbreaks of missing out on the Scottish League title in 1965 and 1986 by the narrowest of margins before Hearts finally ended 36 years without a trophy by winning the Scottish Cup under Jim Jefferies in 1998.
